Using digital video camera & microscope linked to television
& computer, plankton nets and cutting edge research equipment
to enhance your trip.
The Undersea Explorer expeditions to the reef also give
us the chance to gain important information on seasonal
changes such as breeding times, migrations, territorial
disputes and sexual rituals for many different marine animals.
This research forms a very important set of quality baseline
data, which the visiting scientists can refer to when studying
a particular aspect of the reef.
Support For Research Organisations
Undersea Explorer's constant ready access to reef study
sites and provision of research equipment and berths for
scientists is their commitment to the scientific community.
By linking tourism and research they are encouraging research
that would otherwise be impossibly expensive or difficult.
What they are aiming for is an overall 'ecosystem study'
which can link many important studies together to give a
better overall understanding of this area of reef and coral
reefs in general.
The Reef discovery courses run on all scheduled departures.
This is definitely not classroom stuff; it is hands on,
get wet and join in activity! Enjoy the "in-water classroom"!
Using the real coral reef environment, quality reference
books, video footage and of course the research equipment
such as plankton nets, microscope and digital underwater
video Undersea Explorer's marine biologist will be on hand
to answer all your reef questions.
You will have the option to take a recognised course,
which will help give you a complete picture of the reefs
you dive. They will not only cover identification and tips
to make this easy but also the lifestyles of the reef animals
including defence methods, sexual rituals, favourite habitats
and how they fit within the whole reef system.
You will be able to join in during dives, between dives
and even during night plankton fishing and nautilus trapping
research. The marine biologist will help divers become involved
in the learning and research to whatever level they feel
both comfortable and interested.
