The
Karawari River is a tributary to the mighty Sepik River
which is home to some of the most interesting traditional
cultures in PNG. Here sits Karawari Lodge on a ridge overlooking
the river. You are in `Arambak' country here, one of the
most remote and unspoilt areas of Papua New Guinea, with
the Karawari River only 300 feet (100 meters) below as your
only way in or out (apart from air transport).
From
Karawari Lodge you can explore nearby villages on foot and
see local people going about their day to day activities
or you can take a river truck along the waterways or barets
to explore more remote villages.
The
Karawari River like the main Sepik River is rich in culture;
totemic carvings, magic and traditional ways of living are
still very much intact. This 4 day tour gives you a good
insight into the area:

nights/4 days Karawari River Tour
Day
1: Depart Mount Hagen on your charter flight to Karawari
airstrip. On arrival you will be met for your transfer
to Karawari Lodge where three nights accommodation with
all meals will have been booked for you. One afternoon
and two full day tour will also be booked. Depart on your
afternoon tour after checking in.
Day 2: Full day tour exploring the Karawari River
and villages on the river.
Day 3: Full day exploring the Karawari River.
Day 4: Transfer to Karawari airport for your flight
to Mount Hagen.
