Kuranda Scenic Railway/Skyrail
Experience the contrast of
the regions oldest and most picturesque railway and the invisible technology of
the world's most beautiful Cableway in one day. Have you ever wanted to visit
exotic tropical rainforest and imagined what it might be like to glide through
the tree tops to experience the amazing rainforest canopy? Well, you can do just
that in Cairns in tropical Queensland, Australia.
Starting with a luxury coach transfer from your accommodation to Freshwater
Station where you will board the train for this historical 90 minute journey on
one of the world's most scenic train routes. You will travel through the cane
fields of Cairns to the tropical rainforest of Kuranda through 15 hand cut tunnels
and across bridges with amazing views of spectacular waterfalls.
You will arrive
in Kuranda Village where you can do your own exploring; check out the Heritage
Markets or perhaps visit the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary, Birdworld, Koala
Gardens, Australian Venom Zoo or Bat Reach, a Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation
Centre (own expense).
At the scheduled time board skyrail for the world's most beautiful rainforest
experience. Skyrail is a world first in environmental tourism. The world's longest
gondola cableway is built over World Heritage listed tropical rainforest, enabling
passengers to glide in six person cabins just metres above the tree tops and really
experience the sights, sounds, smells and life that is the rainforest canopy.
It does so without roads or cars and buses and without noise and pollution or
harm to the sensitive rainforest environment.
There are two rainforest stations
along the way. Here passengers can experience the forest floor via low impact
board walks, view the spectacular Barron Gorge and Falls and learn about the environment
you are visiting in the CSIRO Rainforest Interpretative Centre.
You can
combine your Train/Skyrail Rainforest Experience with any of the following options:
Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park
A unique park presenting
the History, Culture and Dance of this local rainforest tribe. Located adjacent
