 The
Resort
Garden Island is a charming ocean-front property with 30
well appointed rooms, each with a commanding view of the
Somosomo Strait and beyond to the larger island of Vanua
Levu. The resort provides a quiet and relaxing lifestyle
in tropical surroundings with pleasant, attentive staff
and fine international cuisine. Spend your time diving Rainbow
Reef less than 15 minutes boat ride away, sit back by the
pool and enjoy the magnificent sunsets or take off and explore
the lush tropical beauty of Taveuni !
 The
Diving
Fed by the nutrient rich waters of the Somosomo
Strait, Taveuni's Rainbow Reef is home to one of the world's
most spectacular displays of soft coral and the abundant
fish life that inhabits
these reefs. In just 15-20 minutes the well equipped aluminium
dive vessels whisk divers away to famous dive sites such
as the Great White Wall, The Ledge, Annie's Bommie, Jerry's
Jelly, Rainbow's End and many many more. The vibrant colours
of the soft coral and the fish life really do have to be
seen to be believed. Most dives are drift dives where you
simply follow the current and the vessel will be nearby
to pick you up when you surface.

Accommodation
The main building consists of a two-storey block, which
although western in style, is adorned with a wealth of lush
vegetation which gives the resort a warm, tropical feeling.
The 30 rooms are clean and very spacious with either a balcony
(upstairs) or patio (downstairs) facing the ocean configured
for twin, double or triple occupancy. All rooms are air-conditioned,
have private bathrooms with a shower and a bath, a refrigerator,
a telephone and coffee/tea making facilities. Garden Island
Resort has 24-hour power supplied by its own generator.
 Meals
The Drodrolagi Restaurant features fine local and international
cuisine with fresh local produce, meats, poultry and seafood,
and at least one vegetarian dish at each meal. The restaurant
is located right next to the swimming pool where you can
either sit inside the traditionally decorated restaurant
or dine "al fresco". There's an "a la carte"
menu lunch & dinner menu that you can choose from at
will with the prepaid meal plan and if you want to take
a day trip to one of the local islands or a trek to the
waterfalls then a packed picnic lunch can be happily provided.
The Tagimoucia Bar is nicely decorated and is the ideal
place to enjoy an early evening "sundowner" or
two ! Happy hour is between 5PM & 6PM and the famous
Garden Island Resort Band plays nightly from 6PM to 10PM.
 Dive
Shop
Aqua-Trek,
Taveuni is the resort's professional dive operation The
dive shop is equipped with excellent hire gear, camera rinse
tanks and digital dowloading facilities. There are two well
equipped and fully-covered dive vessels that can accommodate
comfortably up to 12 divers if necessary complete with convenient
tank clips.
Learn
to Dive in Paradise !
Being
located so closely to a multitude of dive sites - many of
them on protected, fringing reefs makes Garden Island an
excellent place for guests to learn to dive with all the
creature comforts of the resort close at hand. Throughout
the year Garden Island & Aqua Trek offer some excellent
packages that include accommodation, meals and a PADI Open
Water course. A Certification Course lasts four days and
you will learn all the requisite skills to enable you to
dive with confidence anywhere on the planet.

Snorkeling
Korolevu is a small island just off the resort offering
excellent snorkeling and beautiful white sand beaches perfect
for sunbathing. Dolphins are sometimes seen just offshore.
Regular boat taxis from the Dive Centre whisk you away to
this tropical paradise. Romantic and picturesque, this is
the ideal spot for a private picnic lunch.
Rainbow Reef's spectacular underwater gardens are just 20-minute
boat ride away. This excellent snorkeling location is quite
different from Korolevu Island. In addition to the beautiful
coral, there are often multitudes of fish, and even an occasional
reef shark.
Kayaking
Set
off in one of the Dive Centre's ocean kayaks and discover
the beautiful beaches of Korolevu, or follow the coastline
past Fijian villages, river inlets and occasional mangroves.
Take a packed lunch, perhaps, and have a picnic. Don't forget
to take your snorkeling gear to enjoy the nearby reefs !
 The
International Dateline
No visit to Taveuni is complete without visiting the 180th
meridian - the International Dateline. Taveuni is one of the
very few land masses in the world that the meridian crosses
and you are just a few minutes away.
Other
activities
Taveuni is known for its rich diversity of animal and plant
life and, because of its thriving ecosystem, is one of the
most significant islands in the South Pacific for biology
and conservation. Taveuni's beautiful mountainous terrain
and spectacular waterfalls provide endless opportunities
for the eco-minded adventurer. As host to nearly all the
bird species found in Fiji, the island is also a paradise
for avid bird watchers.
Local
culture
The
island is equally rich in culture and history and you can
observe how a traditional village operates or visit a hill
fort site that was used by the ancient Fijians as a secret
enemy.
Getting to/from Taveuni 
Your international flight into Fiji will take you into Nadi
on Fiji's main island of Viti Levu.
From there daily domestic flights take you to Taveuni's
Matei Airport.
For those already in Fiji daily flights also operate between
Suva & Taveuni.
From the airport it's approximately a 30 minute scenic
drive along the tranquil coastal road to the resort. There's
only one road on Taveuni that covers about 75% of the coast
line.
